Mountain Central Vac has been installing and repairing central vacuum systems throughout Salt Lake City and the Salt Lake Valley since 1990. We’re Utah’s largest central vacuum company — not a general contractor who does vacuum work on the side. Central vacuums are all we do, and we know them inside out.
Salt Lake City homes are some of the most varied we work in — 1920s Avenues bungalows with plaster walls and narrow crawl spaces, mid-century ramblers on the east bench, newer construction in the Daybreak-era neighborhoods on the valley floor. Each type requires a different installation approach. Plaster walls need a different rough-in strategy than drywall. Slab foundations change how tubing is routed. We’ve handled all of it, thousands of times over 35 years.
Every installation starts with a walkthrough of your home. We figure out the right number of inlets, where to place the power unit (usually the garage or utility room), and how to route tubing through walls and floors with the least disruption. You’ll get a written quote before we start — no surprises.
Salt Lake City’s inversion seasons are a real reason to consider central vacuum over portable. When the valley air turns brown from November through February, the last thing you want is a portable vacuum blowing fine particles back into your living room. Central vacuum systems exhaust 100% of debris outside the living space — through the exterior wall or into the garage. Nothing recirculates indoors.

We repair every brand of central vacuum sold in Utah — Beam, NuTone, Vacumaid, Eureka, ACV, CycloVac, and everything else. Lost suction is the most common call we get, and the cause is almost never what homeowners expect. It’s usually a partial clog in the tubing, a worn motor, or a failing inlet valve — not a problem with the hose or attachments. We carry parts for all major brands in our truck, so most repairs are done in a single visit.
If your system is older and parts are no longer available, we’ll tell you honestly whether repair still makes sense or whether a new unit would serve you better. We’re not in the business of keeping a dying system on life support.

We serve all of Salt Lake City and the surrounding valley — the Avenues, Capitol Hill, Sugar House, South Salt Lake, Millcreek, Holladay, Cottonwood Heights, and the east bench neighborhoods. We also cover West Valley City, Murray, Midvale, Taylorsville, West Jordan, and South Jordan. If you’re in the Salt Lake Valley, we can get to you.
Most single-family homes take one day — sometimes two for larger homes or complicated layouts. We’ve done retrofits in older Avenues homes that took closer to two days because of the plaster walls and lack of access. We’ll give you an accurate time estimate after the walkthrough.
Yes. Retrofit is actually most of what we do. New construction is easier, but we regularly install in 1940s–1960s homes throughout Salt Lake City. Plaster walls and tight crawl spaces add some complexity, but they’re manageable with the right approach. We’ve been doing it for 35 years.
First check for a clog — drop a coin into an open inlet and see if it gets pulled in. If suction at the inlet is fine, the problem is likely the hose or wand. If suction at the inlet is also weak, you’ve got a partial blockage in the tubing or a motor issue. Call us and we’ll walk you through a quick diagnosis over the phone before scheduling a visit.
